It’s almost a year since Project 42ude got under way and of course there are new adventures in the pipeline. The following is Alice’s latest plan:

In March 2014, I’ll again be competing in the Grand Traverse, a 42 mile self supported backcountry ski race from Crested Butte to Aspen, to raise money for Big City Mountaineers. My teammate and I are one of only a few teams that are racing for charity, and we’ve committed to raising $1500 for Big City Mountaineers — a 501c3 non-profit that uses the outdoors to mentor inner-city, non privileged youth.

My teammate for this race is Jeff Wanner, a friend and endurance athlete here in Boulder. During the Grand Traverse, we’ll race in a 2-person team as we climb, skin and ski our way up and over the Elk Mountain Range gaining a cumulative 7800 feet of elevation. We start at midnight in the cold and dark, racing through sunrise and into daylight. We hope to be in Aspen by sundown the following day.

Big City Mountaineers (BCM) is a organization that provides self-growth-oriented wilderness opportunities for underserved youth, and it bolsters its student outcomes by structuring programs around a close-knit 1-on-1 mentoring program. BCM is an organization worthy of our (and your!) support. Last year we helped send 5 young women from inner cities in the midwest to the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota for an impactful, confidence building, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Check out what these ladies had to say about their BCM experience at our fundraiser central webpage.

Please help us provide this experience for another group of deserving young folks by contributing to our fundraising goal! This is the perfect way to give a holiday gift to yourself or to loved ones without adding to the clutter of their closets. If you are making a donation on behalf of someone as a Christmas gift let me know and I will personally write them a holiday card and thank you note. (Promise!) I find giving donations at this time of year help me reflect on and appreciate my own good fortune, something that is easy to bypass without a deliberate calling such as this.
Donations are also tax-deductible — you’ll get an official receipt from BCM that you can print out for tax purposes, so it is a win-win!

Donations of any size can be made by credit card at our fundraising site and click on “Make a Gift!” in the red box on the right hand. The site is: http://support.bigcitymountaineers.org/site/TR/SummitforSomeone/General?px=1001822&pg=personal&fr_id=1161

Thanks in advance for supporting us in this cause!
Alice (and Jeff)
